At Samskaara Academy, we believe that education is not just about acquiring knowledge but also about fostering a love for learning and nurturing the whole child. Our educational process is a continuous exploration, guiding children to become compassionate individuals who demonstrate love for people and the environment.
A school is a place where one learns about the totality, the wholeness of life

The Montessori Methodology is a unique educational approach that emphasizes self-directed learning and holistic development. At Samskaara, we believe in nurturing children with love and understanding to foster their love for people and the environment. Our goal is to help children realize their talents and hone their skills, while also instilling in them a sense of compassion and harmony with the earth.
The Montessori Methodology is based on years of experimentation and research conducted across various countries, races, and religionsThis approach focuses on fostering physical and psychological growth, encouraging children to explore and learn at their own pace.
One of the key principles of Montessori is that it stirs the spirit and encourages learning from within. By providing a self-directed learning system, children are given the freedom to explore their interests and take ownership of their education. This approach empowers children to develop a love for learning, as they are actively engaged in their own educational journey.
Maria Montessori profoundly respected children. She placed the child as the centre of learning. In Montessori classrooms, teachers respect children as separate and unique individuals. They guide children to respect the people and objects in their environment, and eventually, to respect and understand the connectedness between all living and non-living beings in the cosmos.
The environment must be enriched and provide scope to facilitate learning at all stages of development. The developmental changes are kept in mind through the preparation of the environment. Montessori’s environments support collaborative as well as individual learning. It enables physical, cognitive, social and emotional development.
It builds a dynamic social setting where learning takes place both horizontally and vertically. The older children step up when required and mutually help each other. They co-exist and live in harmony, a promising quality essential in this world.
In this method the child has the freedom to choose his work. As he chooses his work and it is meaningful, he uses all his senses, mind and the body. Learning becomes an experience as he engages the whole self. These experiences lead to deeper learning experiences and create a life-long love for learning. Discovery and problem solving are by products of this learning process.
This methodology fosters creativity and imagination in every child. In the primary years of learning, imagination was launched through sensory exploration. The open ended activities allow children to explore new ideas and relationships, providing space for innovation and self-expression.
Maria Montessori defines, “Education as an aid to life”; by life she means the spirit of life. We must enable them to build all the skills and qualities required to lead a mindful, independent life. As we work collaboratively in the Montessori environment, they are conscious of everyone and everything in the environment. A child becomes an active participant as he says, “Help me to do it myself” . In Montessori classrooms, this natural drive towards independence is fostered through practical, social and intellectual experiences.
In our pre-primary Montessori environments, children are offered various practical life activities that enhance their fine motor skills and stimulate their interest in day-to-day work such as cleaning, mending, cooking, washing, chopping vegetables, cleaning tables; pouring grains, washing clothes; sieving flour to churning buttermilk; sweeping to sewing; taking care of plants and self-care. The skills are mastered through spontaneous interest and repetition. Children understand the importance of following steps, sequence, ratio and proportion, working as a team, coordination, patience, sharing and being responsible. Every early Montessori and Elementary school child at Samskaara gets an opportunity to prepare a morning snack. The thrill of placing the order for the ingredients, storing it, preparing it in time, serving it, and collectively enjoying the snack is educational and enjoyable. This activity incorporates a sense of achievement, order, discipline, responsibility and confidence among the children.
In our Casa environments, children are offered activities to become conscious of practical life skills, that range from washing, peeling, chopping vegetables / fruit to cleaning tables and sorting items. When they enter the Elementary Montessori Environment at about 6 years, children are given an opportunity to prepare their own snacks. This is done in small mixed age groups that include children from Grade 1 to Grade 5. Younger children love to carry the snacks and arrange them for their older friends and class-mates. Children enjoy chopping, filling ,mixing and preparing recipes step by step in a sequence ensuring the snack is attractive and delicious.
Kitchen is a place where external order is very important to achieve the right dish with the right proportion of ingredients while having all the necessary ingredients and products in place .It is also important to internalize the sequence in which each ingredient has to be added in the long run. This helps children achieve a sense of belonging, of doing things in order, and realising the importance of process and not just focus on the final outcome be it maths, science or language. The process or the order of words is very important, even more than the final outcome or result. If children understand that mastering and practising the skills are important for life, they start practising these snack making activities at home as well. This gives them the confidence that they are contributing towards their family by achieving new skill habits. They also become independent to serve guests at home when the need arises. Indirectly this leads to confidence and self-reliance.
All of these stimulate their interest to apply these skills in real life, and what better place can we offer than a Samskaara kitchen built just for children.
Writing is one of the primary modes of self expression and social interaction. All of these are done for a purpose and not simply for the sake of writing!
While Junior Montessori beautifully, step-by-step initiates children into the world of writing, Elementary Montessori provides a conducive platform for children to freely pen down their ideas and thoughts as well as comprehend their learning in their own words.
Concepts in various subjects are introduced to the children through materials and presentations, followed by research works. This way children not only get an opportunity to practice what has been offered to them but also to logically reason out and comprehend their learnings in a way that will stay with them internally (mental order). Samskaara Elementary children have the freedom to express themselves in the form of poetry, pattern writing, dialogue writing, fiction, non-fiction and even to write a book - all of these from almost 6½ to 7 years of age onwards.
